ACSH participates in the MPM-OECD Asia Public Service Network Conference on the Future of Public Service

The MPM-OECD Asia Public Service Network (APSN) Conference on the Future of the Public Service organized by Korea’s Ministry of Personnel Management (MPM) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) took place on November 20 in Seoul.

The event has brought together delegates from 13 member countries of the Asia Public Service Network, as well as government officials, academics, and experts. It is noteworthy that over a half of the APSN members are among the ACSH participating countries. The Conference featured presentations based on research findings and practical experiences, accompanied by in-depth professional discussions.

Recognizing the strong collaboration between the ACSH, MPM, and the OECD, representatives of the Astana Civil Service Hub were specially invited to this significant gathering, where Mr. Alikhan Baimenov, Chairman of the ACSH Steering Committee, had the honor of delivering opening remarks.

In his address Mr. Baimenov stated that “Partnership and cooperation at all levels are crucial in achieving the SDGs. Therefore, multilateral frameworks and platforms, exemplified by the ACSH and APSN, is of paramount importance in the search for relevant tools and methods to address development challenges.”

A bilateral meeting with the Minister of MPM, Mr. Yeon Won Jeong, took place on the same day. The parties acknowledged the fruitful collaboration between the Hub and the Ministry and outlined future goals in joint capacity building and research efforts. Mr. Baimenov emphasized the great importance of MPM's 10-year success story, consistently defined by its commitment to sharing experience and knowledge.

Considering the high potential of the ACSH platform and the commonalities in civil service issues among countries, Minister Yeon suggested conducting “in-depth joint research and capacity-building activities, focusing on specific fields as defined by the Hub’s needs assessment, and drawing on examples of best practices from the region.”

Within the framework of the Conference, Mr. Baimenov also exchanged views with representatives from the governments of Japan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom, as well as the OECD Directorate for Public Governance.
